Xopenex is a short-acting bronchodilator made of the hydrochloride salt of levalbuterol, a relatively selective beta2-adrenergic receptor. The activation of beta2-adrenergic receptors on the airway smooth muscle relaxes the smooth muscles of all airways, from the trachea to the terminal bronchioles.
