While the first version of the test offers slightly lower values of CA-125 protein within the bloodstream, the procedure has been improved in 1991 and thus the results of the CA-125 II version are often more accurate and reliable, as well as less likely to fluctuate than the figures revealed by the previous one.



The results of the two versions cannot be interchanged and it is strongly recommended to use the same type of CA-125 test for a precise comparison of results. However, the first generation of tests is rarely used nowadays, having been replaced with the subsequent CA-125 II version.
