Trenton, New Jersey at no time in the past had any plants which processed asbestos. W.R. With a new hope

This is a story about a young man from Puerto Rico who shifted to New Jersey in the hopes of better job for himself and better life for his family. He was employed as a mixer in a W.R. Grace zonolite processing plant. This plant usually processed 350,000 tons of vermiculite ore which was transported from the vermiculite mine located in Libby, Montana. He was earning enough money for himself and his family.

Being hopeless and shattered

But long after the plant is shut down, now he suffers breathing problems. He also suffered a stroke due to stress and asbestosis filling the lungs with fluid. He and his family were provided with less information regarding the risk in the plant by W.R. Grace. He was although provided with regular medical examinations, the periodic results were inconsistent. In the early 1980’s, examinations indicated that he had early symptoms of asbestosis. But the irony is, in 1991, the doctors certified him for work with any hazardous materials. He suffered a major stoke later, due to which he became speechless and bedridden. Now he and his family are suffering, they really feel their dreams have been shattered by the deadly asbestos fibers. His family is finding it difficult to manage fund for his further treatment. Another real set back was W.R Grace didn’t come forward to financial or mental support its ex-workers in any form or kind.
