What Is Mesothelioma?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was used on a very large scale up until the sixties o insulate and provide with a very wide set of other functions in many types of applications and uses.

Mesothelioma – a rare cancer type

Mesothelioma usually remains latent for up to six o seven decades after the person was exposed to asbestos. It is a rare type of cancer, one of the rarest, and curing it is very difficult for all physicians. Even so, a cure for mesothelioma is expected in the next decade, expert say.

The way it develops is very different to other, more common, types of cancer. First, the small fibers, after getting into the body by being inhaled or swallowed, they slowly make their way to the soft tissue groups of the body. The body reacts to this by trying to extract those fibers, but the only thing it does is create scar tissue. This is taking place because the body is not able to take the fibers out. but in the process of attempting to do so it creates those scars.

These tiny scars create the perfect environment for cancer cells to appear and develop. If this type of scarring appears near the lungs it will create pleural effusion (the build up of fluid) and pleural thickening (thickens the membrane that allows the lungs to expand and contract freely). This will cause breathing problems and all sorts of discomforts, from pain to swelling and nausea.

There are some mesothelioma survivor stories that say mesothelioma can be cured by the use of herbal medicine (alternative treatment method that is not accepted by the world wide doctor community as a true cure for mesothelioma, or any type o cancer for that matter).
