Dr. Ravi Salgia is an expert thoracic oncologist and has developed a strong program in novel therapeutics targeting thoracic malignancies like mesothelioma. With more than 15 years of experience, he also consults on national and international cases in thoracic malignancies. His clinical interests are Medical oncology, Thoracic oncology, Lung cancer, Mesothelioma, Carcinoid tumors, Thymomas and Esophageal cancer. His research includes studying targeted therapies that improve the quality of life for patients with cancer. He has also received board certification in medical oncology and internal medicine.

He graduated from Loyola University, Chicago and thereafter undertook residency and internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. Finally he pursued his fellowship at the prestigious Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School. He is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.

What is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease in which cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order. They can invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. Cancer cells can also metastasize (spread) from their original site to other parts of the body. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum.
