Dr. Eric S. Lambright specializes in general and thoracic surgery. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated with an MD more than 15 years ago from The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Alpha Omega Alpha. He is particularly interested in pulmonary malignancies, lung transplantation, lung failure surgery, as well as minimally invasive techniques such as thoracoscopic (VATS) procedures and transcervical approach for thymectomy. He has a lot of experience with complex pulmonary resections including bronchoplastic and chest wall procedures. His research interests include novel therapies for chest malignancies including pleural mesothelioma.

Dr. Lambright became a part of the faculty at Vanderbilt University in 2004. He currently serves as the Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Nashville VA Hospital and was named Surgical Director of Lung Transplantation in January of 2007. He undertook internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania followed by a Thoracic Oncology Research Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and a Cardiothoracic Residency at the same Hospital. He has received board certification for General and Thoracic Surgery.

Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease in which cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order. They can invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. Cancer cells can also metastasize (spread) from their original site to other parts of the body. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum.
