Dr. Mulligan was chief of the General Thoracic Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. since 2000. He joined, Christiana Care’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Department of Surgery, in April and now he is Thoracic Surgeon at Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, in Newark, DL.

Dr. Charles Ray Mulligan graduated, in 1983 the United States Military Academy, at West Point, NY, for Chemistry and Civil Engineering. He also graduated Medical University of South Carolina, and received his MD in 1989. He completed his residency at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia in General Surgery.

Later, he did a fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, at the Department of Thoracic Surgery. Between 1994 and 1997 Dr. Mulligan was a staff general surgeon at McDonald Army Community Hospital. Between 2003 -2004 he was chief of Thoracic Surgery at the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq.

Dr. Charles Ray Mulligan`s medical interests are: lung cancer, mesothelioma cancer and mediastinal tumors. He is very dedicated to his work and he also writes a few articles about thoracic oncology and thoracic trauma. Aditionally, he is very focused on malignant mesothelioma tumors.

What is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease in which cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order. They can invade and damage nearby tissues and organs.
