Dr. Bruce E. Johnson is a professor of medicine at the prestigious Harvard Medical School. He is a medical oncologist who got his MD degree from the University of Minnesota in 1979. His chief interests are in non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, genomic characterization and mesothelioma, etc. He is an expert in lung cancer, thoracic oncology and Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) Inhibitors. He is also professionally affiliated with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Harvard Cancer Center) where he occupies the position of a director and heads the Partners Cancer Care Thoracic Oncology Program, a cooperative effort that includes DFCI, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital. He has received board certification in Internal Medicine in 1982 and in Medical oncology in 1985.

After his postgraduate training at the University of Chicago and the National Cancer Institute, he continued at NCI where he recently led the Lung Cancer Biology Section and then joined DFCI in 1999. He undertook residency at University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics where he practiced Internal Medicine and he did his fellowship at the National Cancer Institute in Medicine.

Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease in which cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order. They can invade and damage nearby tissues and organs.
