VCU Massey Cancer Center is one among those dedicated to lead the fight against cancer. As one of just 65 NCI-designated cancer centers, VCU Massey is home to the latest cancer research and makes every effort to transition the discoveries from the lab to the patients as soon as safe and applicable. To this end, 500 researchers, including 175 VCU faculty members, work relentlessly and also interact with other leading cancer centers across the country to make the best available to the people in Central Virginia.

Great intellectual acumen powers the specialized teams that study each different type of cancer, from breast cancer, lung cancer or colon cancer to rare forms like mesothelioma. A number of specialists form the multidisciplinary teams, such as surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and others. This combination provides a 360 degree assessment of the patient’s needs and rules out efforts wasted in doctor shopping. Apart from medical, surgical and chemical interventions, there is also palliative care for those beyond the pale of active treatment.

It is claimed that “Massey offers more clinical trials than any other cancer center in Virginia.” With more than half the funding coming from private philanthropy, Massey exemplifies a unique public-private partnership that offers hope in the form of the latest treatment options to the people of this state.
