The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) is the only one of its kind in the area. As a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, it focuses on prevention of cancer and detection and treatment of cancer patients. It conducts cutting-edge cancer research and translates discoveries into what will benefit the patients in the clinic and also educates through outreach programs.

CINJ has created a network of hospitals across the state to offer its services to each person suffering the torments of cancer in any form, be it a benign tumor or raging mesothelioma. The most advanced treatment options are made available to all.

Focus on research translates into six ongoing programs at present. Each is led by faculty members and works under peer-reviewed grants and CINJ shared resources. The six programs encompass various aspects such as Basic Science; Clinical Science; and Public Health Science and function in the manner of interdisciplinary groups.

The services offered to patients work on a multidisciplinary format. Teams of nationally renowned specialists that comprises oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, social workers and nurses work together to address the individual needs of each patient. Teams differ by their specialty and expertise in a particular type of cancer, and are led by an academic physician who is an expert in the etiology and treatment of that specific disease. Comprehensive cancer care also rests on state-of-the-art, diagnostic equipment, advanced surgical options, and a range of therapies, both conventional and radical.
