How to detect Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer caused by asbestos and it can be detected by the use of one or more of the following:

  • X-rays
  • Testing of lung tissue (highly invasive procedure)
  • Analyzing of the patient’s symptoms
  • PET imaging (best in determine the stage of mesothelioma)
  • MRI or CAT scans (asbestos fibers are not detectable by this method, only tumors will be obvious)

Your doctor will use at least two of the above methods to detect mesothelioma. It is important to know when the asbestos exposure took place.
